Responsibilities of a Quality Engineer Manager

Depending on the employer, a Quality Engineer Manager is responsible for the following: 

  • Devise a company's quality standards, procedures and specifications
  • review customer requirements and make sure they are met
  • Collaborate with purchasing staff to establish quality requirements from external suppliers
  • Document standards for quality, health and safety
  • Ensure manufacturing or production processes meet multi-national standards
  • Find solutions aimed at reducing waste to increase efficiency
  • Detail quality procedures with operating staff
  • Create and maintain documentation procedures and controls  
  • Measure performance by collating and analysing relevant data
  • Produce and present statistical reports
  • Review existing policies and suggest necessary changes and improvements
  • Implement any policy amendments 
  • Help and advise on improving product quality
  • Support test automation of products and procedures
  • Monitor performance and identify any areas of weakness, recommending and implementing improvements
  • Liaise and communicate with managers, design teams, software developers and other quality assurance engineer working on the project
  • Provide quality standards training, tools and techniques to other members of staff
  • Review the effectiveness of any implemented changes
  • Ensure the company is working as effectively as possible to keep up with competitors
  • Lead, mentor, train and manage a team of quality control engineers
     

Skills and experience needed

Experienced senior Quality Engineer Managers will be required to have the below skills and experience: 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to analyse and problem solve
  • Have effective planning and project management skills
  • Able to lead, train and motivate a team
  • Takes a strategic approach to work
  • Adapt and facilitate any changes of a project

Qualifications

Quality Engineer Managers will be expected to have a BS/MS degree or postgraduate qualification in any of the below: 

  • Engineering and manufacturing
  • Food science and technology
  • Physical/mathematical/applied science
  • Polymer science technology
  • Textile technology
  • Any Medical Technology or Life Sciences degree
