What did you do last week? I’m not sure it can beat a trip to Vegas! Matt Dixon, a contract recruiter in our London office has just got back from a 10-day trip to Nevada – something he couldn’t have imagined a few years ago.

In October 2016, Matt relocated from his home town to join the team in Meet’s London office. However, London wasn’t always the dream for Matt…“Growing up in a small town I always had an ambition to move to a bigger city. But in truth, I wasn’t interested in London when I was younger – I thought it was far too expensive! I imagined myself moving to a city like Leeds or Manchester.”

Fast forward a few years and 2 of Matt’s university friends are living in London. He was visiting regularly and getting a taste of life in the capital…“Each time I’d visit I was blown away by both the day and the night life. I’d always thought Manchester was cool, but London is on another level.”

Ready to take the leap, he started the job hunt. After interviewing with about 5 other recruitment companies, the choice was clear… “Meet was the only company who made the effort to tell me about them; the culture, the vision and my part in that.”

“Whilst other companies were telling me I wouldn’t have a life for six months until I was promoted, Meet were all about the cool stuff. I knew the expectation was still hard work, but they told me all about the incentives, lunch clubs and holidays too. It was an easy decision.”

So, Matt moved to London knowing only 2 of the 8 million people who live and work here. Has he looked back? “I’ve got no regrets. If anything, I wish I’d moved to London straight after university.”

“You can never be bored in London, it has so much to offer. It’s also a city where you can be yourself. Growing up in a smaller town, I was used to a culture where everyone follows trends. But in London everyone is unique. There is a sense of freedom and Meet can give you the opportunity to enjoy it to the fullest extent.”

Meet has had a big impact on Matt’s life in London, not only from a professional point of view but it’s also been part of shaping his personal life… “Many people move to London with a friendship group or support network. When I moved down, I knew just 2 people. Now, amongst the people I work with are a big group who I consider to be really close friends.”

“I think that shows that I’ve joined a company of like-minded individuals, not just in a business sense but people I genuinely get along with - I'd say some of my best friends work here.”

It’s also changed his lifestyle, “In under 2 years I’ve tripled what I earn, so I’ve got a lot more financial freedom to make the most of London and do lots of spontaneous things on the weekend and after work. I’ll also have been abroad 3 times this year, including my trip to Vegas – which I would have never been able to afford before Meet.”

But He points out, “I’ve still got a long way to go in my career development, so there will be loads more exciting holidays and different things I'll be able to do in the future.”
