Is Aldgate the new place to be?

Known, primarily, as the home of the Gherkin, Aldgate is also the home of Meet’s London HQ. We moved into our swanky office in Irongate House in 2017; run by ‘The Space’, it’s a fourth floor, open plan room, with floor to ceiling windows (yes, it’s as light as you imagine). Overlooking Aldgate Square, wedged between a pretty Victorian school and a church, it’s a great spot. But, the swish office isn’t the only reason we love Aldgate…

Here are the team’s top 5 reasons Aldgate is the place to be:

  1. We’re in walking distance of 7 different tube lines

Being so close to Aldgate, Tower Hill and Bank you’ve got easy access to anywhere in London. Plus, with Liverpool Street and Fenchurch Street on the doorstep, you can get practically anywhere! So, popping out to meet candidates and clients is a breeze. And of course, it makes the dreaded commute that bit easier…although if you’re like the healthier members of the team you might prefer to cycle in. Don’t worry, we’ve got showers!

  1. You won’t ever run out of lunch spots

A year later we’re still discovering new spots! There are so many areas to choose from. Obviously, we’ve found some firm favourites; you’ll definitely see a friendly face at Petticoat Lane Market grabbing a wrap or wandering around Leadenhall Market in search of something new (there is genuinely a market for everyday of the week). That’s not even mentioning the variety of local cafes, independent restaurants, and quick bites around every other corner.

  1. Burn off your Lunch in the gym

Health and Wellness is an important part of our culture and there are a variety of gyms to choose from in the area. Go swimming after work or a spinning class at lunch. One of Meet’s perks is a subsided gym membership to a gym of your choice and the option to take a longer lunch break twice a week if to make full use of it. If you’re an early bird, squeeze in a yoga class before work and make use of your flexi-hours between 8-8:30.

  1. Pockets of outdoor space

Perhaps not today (it’ drizzling), but over the last few weeks it’s been fantastic to sit outside over lunch in the glorious weather. Not only do we have Aldgate Square and Broadgate Circle on the door stop. But also, Trinity Square Gardens and the Thames a short walk away, where you can have your Lunch overlooking the Tower of London. Too touristy? We’ll let you decide.

  1. There’s lots to do after work

We’re a social bunch, and there’s such a variety of after-work activities in the area! Aside from our beloved local and curry nights on Brick Lane, we’ve had incentives to Swingers mini-golf, darts at Flight Club and virtual shooting at Mac and Wild, amongst many more. Or, if you’re meeting friends after work, Spitalfields, Shoreditch and Hoxton provide endless dinner options, experimental galleries and a some of the coolest bars in London (who doesn’t love a quirky rooftop in summer?).
